Approach
Hi, I am Brian the therapist and founder of Ashburn Counseling.
I believe that wellness is more than a feeling and is rather a sense of belonging and purpose for what brought you here. Relationships are key to feeling supported, healing, and achieving goals. Before I decided to pursue a profession in Marriage and Family Therapy, I personally benefited from the positive influence of therapy and I have seen the impact therapists and mentors can have in the lives of young adults. For these reasons, I enjoy working with young adults and teens.
I approach therapy using systemic, client-centered, and experiential therapy. I strive to create clear, measurable goals to use in therapy to help guide sessions collaboratively with my clients. I offer respectful, clear, and honest direction as we work toward achieving my client's goals.
To address the unique needs of every client I have experience in multiple therapeutic approaches. Theoretical approaches I commonly use include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Lifespan Integration (LI), Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT), and mindfulness techniques.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy working on cars, mountain biking with my wonderful wife and dog Bernie (who is also wonderful). Additionally, I am an avid Subaru fan, car enthusiast, and like to indulge in the occasional video game.
